Used in the fabrication of all our agricultural products

Hot-dip galvanised steel is steel coated in a protective layer of zinc by immersing it in a bath of molten zinc, which metallurgically bonds to the steel. This process provides durable, long-lasting, and cost-effective protection against rust and corrosion, even in harsh environments. The galvanising process covers all parts of the steel, including edges and corners, offers superior protection and results in a tough, reliable coating that can last for decades with little to no maintenance.
This is the process that MW Engineering & Fabrication use for all their products, so you can be assured of long-lasting, tough equipment.
The Process
- Cleaning: The steel is thoroughly cleaned of any grease, oil, rust, or mill scale through degreasing and acid treatment.
- Fluxing: A flux solution is applied to the cleaned steel, which further removes oxides and helps the zinc adhere properly.
- Dipping: The cleaned and fluxed steel is immersed in a bath of molten zinc at around 450°C (860°F).
- Bonding: The zinc metallurgically bonds to the iron in the steel, forming layers of zinc-iron alloys and a final layer of pure zinc.
- Cooling: The finished steel is cooled and then inspected to ensure the coating is smooth, thick, and free of defects.
Benefits of Hot Dip Galvanised Steel
- Superior Corrosion Protection: A thick, uniform zinc coating protects the steel, acting as a barrier and offering protection as the zinc corrodes preferentially to the steel.
- Complete Coverage: The process ensures the entire steel piece, including intricate areas like corners and hollow sections, receives a complete, consistent coating.
- Durability and Reliability: The zinc coating forms a tough layer that can withstand damage during storage, transport and installation.
- Cost-Effective: Although the initial process has a cost, the long lifespan and low maintenance requirements of hot dip galvanised steel result in a low lifetime cost compared to other protection methods.
- Fast Process: The galvanising process is quick, with the zinc coating solidifying minutes after the steel is removed from the molten bath.
Rest assured that we at MW Engineering and Fabrication offer you only the highest quality of steel in everything we manufacture.
